The Relationship pt 3:
How to Live a Life With God
John 17:3 (NIV) Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 17:3 (AMP) Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true [supreme and sovereign] God, and [in the same manner know] Jesus [as the] Christ whom You have sent.
John 17:3 (AMP) Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true [supreme and sovereign] God, and [in the same manner know] Jesus [as the] Christ whom You have sent.
Living a life for God is more than just attending church or reciting prayers. It's about cultivating a deep, personal relationship with Him. This week, we explored the essence of our faith and how to walk with God daily. Here’s a summary of the key points from the sermon to help you understand and apply these lessons in your life.
- Knowing God Beyond Religion
What Does It Mean to Know God?
Knowing God is not just about religious rituals or attending church services. It’s about a daily relationship where we walk, talk, and hear His voice. Jesus died to restore the relationship intended from the beginning, allowing us to be friends with the Creator of the universe.
Our Identity in God
Understanding who we are in God is crucial. We are not just members of a church; we are sons and daughters of God. This identity gives us a place at His table, no matter how far we feel we’ve drifted. Our status as His children is secure and unchangeable.
- Using Our God-Given Talents
What Are We Entrusted With?
In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we learn that God entrusts us with gifts and abilities according to our capacity. He knows us intimately and gives us what we can handle. Our responsibility is to use these talents fearlessly and faithfully.
How Should We Use Our Talents?
We should not compare ourselves to others but focus on multiplying what God has given us. Whether we have five talents or one, the goal is to use them to their fullest potential, knowing that God trusts us and will commend our efforts.
- Trusting God in Trials
Can We Trust God in Difficult Times?
Hebrews 13:5-6 assures us that God will never leave us nor forsake us. Even in the midst of trials, we can trust that He is with us, supporting and helping us through every challenge.
How Do We Trust God?
Trusting God means believing His promises and knowing that He is always there, even when we feel isolated or overwhelmed. His word is true, and His presence is constant.
- Patience in Suffering and Temptation
How Do We Handle Temptation?
1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that no temptation is beyond our ability to resist. God provides a way out and the strength to endure, ensuring that we can overcome any challenge with His help.
Why Is Patience Important?
Patience in suffering and temptation helps us grow in our relationship with God. It teaches us to rely on His strength and trust in His timing, knowing that He is faithful and compassionate.
- Living to Please God
Why Should We Avoid Sin?
Our motivation to avoid sin should come from our desire to please God, not just to follow rules. When we love God and understand His love for us, our actions naturally align with His will.
How Do We Please God?
Living to please God means making choices that reflect our relationship with Him. It’s about loving Him deeply and wanting to bring joy to His heart through our actions. 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12
How Can We Apply These Truths?
This week, challenge yourself to deepen your relationship with God. Spend time in prayer, use your talents fearlessly, trust Him in trials, and live to please Him. Reflect on these questions:
1. How can I cultivate a deeper relationship with God daily?
2. What talents has God entrusted to me, and how can I use them more effectively?
3. In what areas of my life do I need to trust God more?
4. How can I demonstrate my love for God through my actions?
By focusing on these areas, you can grow in your faith and live a life that truly honors God...but remember, He's with you every step of the way, so lean into Him and not simply your best efforts.
