The Unstoppable Church- Beginnings

Beginnings-Building a Strong Foundation
Journey Through the Book of Acts Study

“The Church is the pilgrim people of God. It is on the move—hastening to the ends of the earth to beseech all men to be reconciled to God, and hastening to the end of time to meet its Lord who will gather all into one.… It cannot be understood rightly except in a perspective which is at once missionary and eschatological. ”
― John R.W. Stott, The Message of Acts
The Book of Acts provides essential insights into the foundational truths and traits that should characterize the modern church. Rather than viewing it as just historical documentation, we should see it as the beginning of an ongoing story that we're called to continue.

Why Should We Trust the Biblical Account of Jesus?
Our faith isn't built on myths or nice ideas - it's founded on historical facts. Jesus' life, death, and resurrection are documented not only by Christians but also by non-Christian historical sources. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to many people, including His disciples and large crowds, providing undeniable proof of His victory over death.

What Role Does the Holy Spirit Play in the Church?
The church was never meant to operate on human strength alone. When we accept Jesus, the Holy Spirit dwells within us, providing:
  • Guidance and counsel
  • Comfort and encouragement
  • Power for ministry
  • Conviction of sin
  • Ability to hear God's voice
This indwelling Spirit is not reserved for church leaders or special individuals - it's available to every believer.

How Should Christians View Earthly Kingdoms vs. God's Kingdom?
While we should participate in civic duties and pray for our leaders, our primary focus must be on God's kingdom rather than earthly governments. The early church thrived even under severe persecution because they understood this principle. Our stability comes from focusing on God's unchanging kingdom rather than shifting political landscapes.

What is Our Mission Until Christ Returns?
The time between Christ's ascension and His return is our opportunity to:
  • Share the gospel with others
  • Point people to Jesus
  • Demonstrate God's power through our lives
  • Be witnesses in our communities and beyond
This mission isn't age-restricted - young and old alike are called to participate in God's work.

This week, consider these questions:
  • Am I relying on my own strength or the Holy Spirit's power in my daily life?
  • Where do I place my primary focus - earthly kingdoms or God's kingdom?
  • How can I be more intentional about sharing my faith with others?

Here's a challenge: Take one step this week to actively rely on the Holy Spirit's power. This might mean:
  • Praying for guidance before making decisions
  • Sharing your faith with someone
  • Offering to pray for someone in need
  • Speaking up when the Holy Spirit prompts you

Remember, you carry God's presence wherever you go. Don't wait for the "right time" or until you're "more qualified" - God wants to use you now to impact those around you.
